Daphne, Alabama is home to a diverse and thriving population. Located in Baldwin County, Alabama, along the eastern shore of the Mobile Bay, Daphne has a deep and interesting history.
Known as “The Jubilee City,” earliest populations took home in the area around 9000 BC. The term “Jubilee City” which has become the nickname of Daphne has its origins in the area’s experience of a marine life phenomenon known as a Jubilee.
Jubilees occur when aquatic life, including shrimp and crab, spontaneously wash ashore deceased as a result of, it is thought, sudden decreases in water-oxygen levels.
These jubilees can occur at any time. Some locals have reported that the presence of eels and other phenomena can be indicators that a jubilee is about to occur. However, this remains a topic of discussion.
